In cookery, in KS2/ KS3 we teach the children some home cooking skills eg, food hygiene, knife skills, food provenance, demonstrations and tasting sessions, pastry making, bread making and making a roux sauce. Children in KS3 will also be doing more creative designs and presentation with cakes and pastries.
In 2019/20, we are inviting food specialists into school to inspire and teach our children about healthy eating.
We will also be linking up Science and food lessons, teaching about hygiene in the cookery room.
Our expert, Mrs Izzard, currently attends a bakery course twice a week to learn cake decorating skills and sugar flower making. She is truly amazing at disseminating her skills and knowledge to children in our school- In deed, they love to know that a member of staff still goes to school and take a keen interest in seeing what she is learning each term!
