West Moors Middle School

PE & Sport at WMMS

Here at West Moors Middle School, PE and Sport play a key role in the day-to-day life. Our philosophy centres around a 4-corner development model, designed to develop each child’s social, psychological, physical and technical skillsets, as well as encouraging a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Our broad curicullum allows each child to experience a wide-range of sports, delivered by our PE team and other highly qualified external coaches. Every child recieves two PE lessons per-week, as well as access to lunch and after-school clubs and activities.

We are extremely fortunate at WMMS to boast excellent sport facilities, to help engage and inspire children to become the best that they can be. These include: 7v7/9v9 football pitches, x2 netball courts, x3 tennis courts, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, futsal and handball courts, an artificial cricket pitch and nets and an extensive range of gymnastics and health related fitness equipment.

An important part of our development model is providing our pupils with the opportunity to represent their school in inter-school fixtures, competitions and events. We pride ourselves on our inclusive approach to allow children of all abilities the chance to play and compete for the school. This is achieved through development fixtures and events, as well as competitive fixtures and competitions, competing regionally and nationally in a range of sports.

As well as playing and competing, our Young Leader pathway enables children the chance to develop their social and leadership skills. Working in conjunction with the Dorset Leadership Academy, our Young Leaders develop a range of new and existing skills, impacting positively on themselves and those around them. Our Young Leaders are given the opportunity to deliver extra-curricular clubs, to be responsible for school teams at events and competitions, as well as officiating inter-school fixtures.

At West Moors Middle School we are passionate about delivering high-quality PE and Sport, with the aim to ensure that each child reaches and maximises their exciting potential.
