At West Moors Middle School, our aims are to provide the highest quality physical education for children and to give them the skills and knowledge required to live a healthy lifestyle. Our wide ranging specialist sporting equipment and facilities enable maximum engagement in a curriculum which provides new, exciting and innovative opportunities. In addition to PE lessons, there are numerous enrichment opportunities, awards schemes as well as signposting to further sporting opportunities beyond our school environment. Competing takes place regularly, in a whole variety of competitions, both within school and against others.

Using our purpose built gymnasium, vast playing field areas and abundance of resources, children are able to experience all of the mainstream sports and many up and coming ones too! Whether your child is ‘creative’ (dance or gymnastics), ‘competitive’ (football, rugby, netball) or enjoys ‘problem-solving’ (orienteering), individually or as part of a team, West Moors Middle School has it covered.

Sports Premium Funding

All pupils have two hours of PE lessons per week. We aim for each pupil to have a third hour of ‘PE’ within the school week, via a club or lunchtime activity. In addition, Key Stage 2 pupils participate in swimming during the summer term.

Pupils participate in games activities such as hockey, netball, football, rugby and basketball in the winter and rounders, cricket, tennis and minor games in the summer. Alongside these games are other elements such as dance, gymnastics, athletics and cross country. There are many inter-house competitions and matches against other schools.

Pupils have the opportunity to develop their interest and abilities in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Pupils are also encouraged to attend after-school sports clubs if they show an interest and/or aptitude in a particular sport.
